Debate over - Find the supplier first!

There is a lot of debate out there amoung the internet business consulting professionals when it comes to finding the suppliers, finding a niche and which one comes first.  I would like to shed some light on this again.

Here is my bottom line take on it - You need products to sell online no matter what.  Thats what I don't get about this debate?  It is always a good idea to get access to a dropshipping list or supplier first to make sure that everything you proceed with is not in vain.  For example it would be pretty silly to spend weeks and weeks and money for a designer on a site that you have no access to products.  What happens if you go through all that time and money and end up not being able to find a supplier for the product?  You are up a creek without a paddle (as the saying goes).

So again its common sense to have suppliers before doing anything online.  It all comes down to the supplier and what kind of prices, policies and customer service they have in order for us to work with them.

Oh and the people that have no idea about what they want to get into, and don't know their "niche" is,  well my suggesstion would be to follow the advice above as well and get access to a supplier list and start making some calls!

Good call. I'm leaning more and more that way as well.  I was taught the opposite at one time: narrow" href="http://mollermarketing.com/2006/12/26/narrowing-down-the-niche-1st-or-finding-suppliers/">narrow">narrow down the niche, then work on finding suppliers within that niche.  It took me about 4 months before I finally found a supplier for clogging" href="http://www.clogon.com/clogging-shoes.html">clogging">clogging shoes, and I had to do it the hard way, go to a local store, try to form some kind of partnership, and luck out (they gave me their manufacturer contact with the wholesale price list - I think they're out of business!).  So, luckily it wasn't in vain but it very easily could have been.

As I work with clients now, I really have seen a few waist quite a bit of time trying to decide on something to market and then, after they've found the "perfect product", they can't find it anywhere!  I agree 110% with this post and am going to make it common practice.
