Dropship Business Owners Must Learn to Adapt and Adjust

The biggest problem I see with the dropship business websites that fail (and eventually go off line) is the owners let their business get stale.  They put no time or effort into marketing them, adapting to the changing web, or adjusting to their customer needs.  Any Internet business owner that thinks they can put up a website, add all the products in, add all the pages in and never touch the site content (or anything else in it for that matter) again for a year is in for a rude awakening!  An Internet business owner with that strategy will not be successful.

Ways for dropship business owners to ADAPT:

  • Learn everything you can about Marketing Online.  Including Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing (PPC), Social Media Marketing/Optimization, Link building Strategies/Campaigns.  When I first started my dropship businesses, Marketing Online was only about changing a title tag, meta description, meta keywords and including some text with keywords somewhere "strategical" on the page.  If you are still doing Search Engine Optimization like this, then again, you need to learn to ADAPT.
  • If you see trends such as Cell Phone web browsing (searches) then you need to read, research and learn everything you can about getting your website "Mobile" ready for those users that will be looking your stuff up on their cell phone.
  • Understand hot trends such as I-Tunes, and pod casting.  Do you have information that a person who loves their IPod would want to download off your site and listen to while they commute?
  • Are you making your site more "Social" or (dare I use the term) Web 2.0 friendly?  Do you have easy means where a visitor can save (or share) your website?  Again, if you are not keeping up and "Adapting" with the web (read the first bullet point again) you will be left behind.

Ways for dropship business owners to ADJUST:

  • Evaluate your current website.  If you have a website that is several years old one of the biggest suggestions I could give you is to bring it up to W3.org standards and get your website to validate.  The cleaner the code, the easier it will be for search engine "crawlers" to pick up the pages on your site.
  • Do you have any kind of web site analytics to track what visitors are doing on your site, or the path they are browsing through your pages (which could lead you to information about why they are not buying)?  Are you aware of the keywords people are using to find you?  When was the last time you researched any keywords related to your business, and found new keywords to go after in your market?
  • Have you missed any un-tapped "niches" in your industry?  For example; If you are selling mattresses, why not take advantage of the people using the search engines to find more information on a custom mattress (like the owners of this website) if you have a supplier that will custom make any size mattress for you?  If this mattress business owner did not continue his keyword research he may have missed out on a great opportunity when finding out people are actually looking for custom made mattresses (all because of keyword research)!  This is a great example of thinking outside the box, and trying to hit every single area of your potential market.
Most of all make sure you are never satisfied with where you are currently at with your Internet dropship business.  Do not think that you are done once your designer says "Ok, the site is complete".   That is just the beginning, and really successful Internet dropship business owners know the site will just continue to grow and eventually turn into a monster.  (A money making monster)
